The Caregivers Support Trust is a Christian UK registered charity, with the aim of supporting unpaid family caregivers in South American countries.
About Us
We currently support ‘Heroínas en la Sombra’ – Unsung Heroines; a registered charity in Colombia that provides support to 12 unpaid family caregivers.
These care-givers are often unable to take time away from caring, making it difficult to take a break from their caring role This may be because they do not have anyone else to take over or that they feel guilty or worried about leaving the person they care for. Unpaid carers miss out on opportunities for leisure, recreation, socialising and personal development. They may also lose contact with friends, family or community networks which affects their own sense of identity and belonging.
Heroínas en la Sombra
In Colombia there is little or no support for full time unpaid caregivers. Any professional care which is very expensive and thus not affordable for most families. Many improvements and developments have come in the field of medicine and physical therapy, but little has been done for the caregivers. These wonderful carers often devote their entire lives to looking after members with complex physical and mental disabilities with very little support from official bodies.
